Cellular Jail

Cellular Jail is a national memorial and a historic building which was built by Britishers in the 19th century. It took 10 years to complete and which look like a wheel with seven spokes. Today only three wings of the seven remain. It is called ‘Cellular’ because it is “Cells beyond Cells”. In British Raj, Cellular Jail was used to exile the Indian freedom fighters who protests against Britishers and took part in revolutions of Indian Independence. The walls of Cellular Jail were accustomed to witnessing all these along with the unspoken inhuman tortures, sufferings, and extreme sacrifices of our freedom fighters. Today when visitor visit cellular jail sense the tortures faced by our beloved freedom fighters and pray tribute to the prisoners who lost their lives while fighting for the freedom of our country. Light and Sound Show-At the National Memorial ‘Cellular Jail’ you can attend the Sound & Light Show where the heroic saga of the Indian Freedom Struggle is brought alive by the means of light and sound at the jail premises, presented in English and Hindi, which takes you back to the British Era.
